The Cellist
The Cellist is a lyrical memoir to the momentous life of acclaimed cellist Jacqueline du Pré; from becoming one of the world's most extraordinary players through to her struggles with multiple sclerosis. Marcelino Sambré's portrayal of the instrument itself is both eerie and poetic; a poltergeist who lifts du Pré into supernatural realms of music. Surrounding this performance is Hildergard Bechtler's set design that thoughtfully intertwines shape, light and woodgrain textures to form a rich and poignant expression on stage.
Based on the designer's specifications this curved wall set piece was painted with an enlarged woodgrain effect, while the reverse was treated with wood stains.
