Medusa

Acclaimed choreographer Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui creates his first work for the Royal Ballet in this piece that merges an eclectic mix of dance styles. Strong light and towering columns cast the stages temple setting into a stark contrast of light and dark. Amidst the gloom are traces of smeared, bloody, grubby marks running up and around the columns; vigorously scrubbed but never totally washed away.

Lino floor painted with Rowan Plinston. Columns painted with Daniel Pheloung, Romy Loughman and Duncan Morris.

Set concept and design Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui and ROH Production.

Choreographer Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui.

Performed as part of a triple bill in the Royal Opera House, London, 2019.
