House of the Dead

A prisoner stands in an otherwise empty prison gymnasium. The eerie echo of a basketball is haunting as the prisoner bounces it again and again on a wooden floor polished and scuffed by years of abuse. Important conversations about prison systems are raised in this final opera by Czech composer Leoš Janáček.

Painted with Duncan Morris and Daniel Pheloung. Various elements of textured scenery including graffiti covered brick walls.

Designer Malgorzata Szczesniak.

Director Krzysztof Warlikowski.
